Are you finding it hard to sit down and concentrate for hours on end? Is the thought of exams stressing you out? Do you find yourself procrastinating until the last few days before your exam date?
If you have answered yes to at least one of those questions you are not alone. We know how hard it is to prepare for your exams. Luckily for you, we have sat in the same seat you are sitting in right now! And we have learnt a few tips and techniques along the way.
We are going to give you 7 fundamental tips to improve your exam preparation skills:
Get off your feet and move! After sitting in the same position for many hours our bodies become more tired and our brain extra exhausted. This is one of the best ways to feel refreshed, revitalised and stay motivated.
Be sure to take regular breaks away from your books! Your mind will absorb less and less information as time goes on if you’re sitting in the same spot. Try to take a 5 to10 minute break every 30 to 40 minutes at least.
- Reward yourself
Why not reward yourself with a little treat. Set a target for yourself, have a pack of sweets next to you and tell yourself that you will not tuck in unless and until you complete your 5, 10, 20 page target!
- Change the scenery
Sometimes study in your bedroom. Sometimes study in the library. Study in the park. Study wherever you feel you can spend quality time without distractions to sit down and focus.
- Sleep early
Having a good early night’s sleep is very important. Many students love burning the midnight oil to revise. If only they knew how inadequate it is for ones overall memory retention rate.
- Awake early
Leading on from the last point. The early bird catches the early worm! If you sleep early, then hopefully that means you will wake up early too. It is common knowledge that the morning time is the most efficient time to do anything because, simply put, your mind is fresh and you can get so much done with so little distraction.
- Practice Tests
If you can get a hold of practice tests (or past exam papers) then do it! Grab as many as you can and study them hard! It’s one of the best forms of studying for your exam.
And that’s it! Stick to these pointers and chances are that you wont have to feel the same regrets after an exams again!
