# Box-and-whisker diagrams

**A box-and-whisker diagram**

A **box-and-whisker diagram **also known as a **boxplot**, can be used to show the spread of the data in a given distribution. This is created using the highest and lowest values, the median, the lower quartile and the upper quartile.

These can then be found from a cumulative frequency graph:

The box and whisper diagram is drawn using the following data from the above graph:

Minimum value = 30

Lower quartile = 42

Median = 47

Upper quartile = 51

Maximum value = 60
